Many truck drivers are alone for the holidays. Most have family but because of the nature of the job, they are often alone and sacrifice valuable family time.
We started Meals for 18 Wheels in the hopes that some families with a ton of food could help make a driver feel appreciated–and at the same time, offer some great food to fill that void so many of us experience when we are on the road.
A quick-food meal is just not the same as a home-cooked feast.
People were quick to jump in and volunteer to take meals, in fact we had hundreds of people in less than 24 hours offering to drive to the truck stop and deliver hot, home-cooked meals.
Sadly, we could not get all the drivers fed.
The concept was so popular, we are going to try and do the same for Christmas. If you would look to participate, go to the Meals for 18 Wheels page to volunteer.
This is all in good faith and we hope people exercise common sense. Some steps to make sure you stay safe:
- Don’t travel to a truck stop alone.
- Get the name and phone number of the driver you will meet.
- Meet inside the truck stop…never meet at a truck.
- We even posted some food safety tips in hopes that no one gets sick.
Missing Truck Driver Alert Network
The Missing Truck Driver Alert Network was founded in February 2012 with the ultimate of locating and returning drivers missing to their family, without loss, by getting the word out to everyone in the trucking community. The MTD Alert Network works with the law enforcement community and truck stops around the country in coordinating any search to achieve this goal.
