Truck drivers are the backbone of America. But when illness or injury takes them off the road, financial hardships often follow. That’s why the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund (SCF) exists — to support truckers when they need it most with financial aid and preventative wellness programs.
2024 has been an extraordinary year for SCF. Here’s a look at the lives touched, milestones reached, and success of this incredible mission.

Supporting truckers through financial crises
Making a direct impact
This year, SCF provided critical financial support for truck drivers and their families. It may take the form of keeping the lights on, preventing an eviction, or safeguarding transportation, and the SCF team worked tirelessly to ensure no driver felt alone.
Here are some 2024 highlights:
- 162 drivers supported so far.
- Over $266,091 paid directly to cover household expenses such as rent, utilities, vehicle payments, and insurance premiums.
- Lifetime totals reached over 3,993 drivers helped and more than $4.8 million distributed since the organization’s inception in 2008.
Changing lives
SCF isn’t just a charity, it’s a lifeline. Stories like Joshua’s bear this out. After suffering a heart attack and losing the ability to drive for months, SCF stepped in to prevent his family from losing electricity, water, and transportation. “Thanks to SCF, we were able to stay afloat when everything felt overwhelming,” he shared.
Take another example in Shawna. She credited SCF for keeping her family on track after her husband, a 30-year veteran truck driver, suffered a stroke. “You gave us hope during one of the hardest moments of our lives,” she said.
Prioritizing health and wellness for drivers
Long hours on the road, limited access to nutritious meals and healthcare, and high-stress levels take a toll. SCF’s health and wellness programs take aim at keeping truckers healthy on the road.
Key health initiatives in 2024
- Rigs Without Cigs: A smoking cessation program empowering drivers to quit smoking and improve their long-term health. This year alone, 16 drivers quit smoking, adding to a total of 232 successful participants since 2017, with another 148 cutting their usage in half since the program’s inception.
- Diabetes prevention program: Tackling a critical health issue within the trucking community, 17 participants joined the 2024 program, which focuses on lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of diabetes.
- GPS cancer screenings: Early detection saves lives. This year, SCF provided 25 prostate cancer tests and 19 colorectal tests, ensuring proactive health care for drivers.
- Vaccine voucher program: Offering free flu, pneumonia, and shingles vaccines for uninsured drivers. 25 vouchers were distributed in 2024, contributing to the 1,096 total vaccinations since 2016.
These programs go beyond crisis intervention, equipping drivers with knowledge and tools to manage their health and prevent serious conditions before they arise.
Inspiring journeys of change
One driver, Shawn, shared how SCF’s Healthy Habits for the Long Haul program made an incredible difference in his life. It was a wake-up call for him. “I slowly began to have the desire, hope and motivation to achieve new goals and lifestyle changes for the better,” he said.
