There’s a brake inspection blitz happening this week, which also just so happens to be National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. How’s that for irony?
Brake Safety Week was organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. Last year law enforcement across North American inspected 18,817 inspections. Afterward, 2,321 trucks were placed out-of-service

Specifically, CVSA says inspectors will be looking for “loose or missing parts, air or hydraulic fluid leaks, worn linings, pads, drums or rotors, and other faulty brake system components.” Inspectors will also be checking ABS malfunction indicator lights to make sure they’re in working order, CVSA says. Defective or out-of-adjustment brakes will result in the vehicle being placed out-of-service.
One bright side to all this is that these safety inspection blitzes sometimes lead to higher freight rates. We see it happen most years during the annual Roadcheck inspection blitz, since it makes it a little harder for brokers and shippers to find available trucks.
