DAT adds John Xiao, Catherine Schulz to technology leadership team

PORTLAND, Ore., August 27, 2024 – DAT Freight & Analytics today announced two new members of its technology leadership team: John Xiao has been named Vice President, Data Engineering, and Catherine Schulz has joined the organization as Senior Director, Platform and DevOps.

“John and Catherine bring extensive technical and management experience as well as new energy to our software and data engineering teams,” said Brian Gill, Chief Product & Technology Officer. “They understand our commitment to experimentation, teamwork, speed, quality, and the role that data and technology play in DAT’s customer experience.”

As Vice President of Data Engineering, Xiao will oversee DAT’s enterprise data platform, machine learning platform, and analytics services. Xiao joins DAT from Nordstrom, where he was Senior Vice President responsible for technology in merchandising, supply chain, and enterprise inventory management. His work included leveraging ML/AI to help internal merchants and external partners automate and optimize product selection, inventory allocation, and dynamic pricing decisions.

DAT’s new Senior Director, Platform and DevOps, Schulz, brings over 10 years of experience managing production engineering, site reliability engineering (SRE), and DevOps practices across retail, finance, software, and SaaS businesses, most recently at Target. She has a strong background in software development, observability, cloud computing, and data engineering, with expertise in AWS, web apps, CI/CD, and visualization.

DAT operates the DAT One marketplace for spot (non-contract) truckload freight and the DAT iQ freight data analytics platform. Together, they provide freight carriers, brokers, and shippers with the most comprehensive insight into truckload capacity and pricing for truckload services on any given lane at any time of year.

“Given the depth of our data and expertise in ML/AI, DAT is ideally positioned to help supply chain leaders create value for their businesses through software, platforms, and services,” said Gill. “We’re excited to bring John and Catherine’s talent, experience, and leadership to our technology organization.”
